Stockholm central station is a major building that reaches deep underground and a vast number of platforms, subway, comutertrains, speedtrains to and from Arlanda airport and Bromma airport, buses and trams traffic the station 24/7 all year round.
To make it a bit easier to find your way around the central station you need a map or you need to frequently travel to and from the station. The station underwent a major transformation in recent years and even Stockholmers find it hard to find your way around the central station.
Map over Stockholm central station Comuter trains
Up till 2018 the comuter trains was located at ground level giving you an excellent view of the capital on the way in and out of Stockholm central. However the need for more trains trafficking both comuter and long distance lines made it very crowded. Now the comutertrains are located deep underground below the red, green and blue subway lines. Basically you need to go as deep down as possible by escalators, stairs or elevators to reach the platforms.On all hours of the day there is security guards and information staff to help you around and the make sure you are safe. Last trains of the day is around 1 am and they start again around 5 am.
Going north by train in Stockholm Central station
To travel to the northern suburbs of Stockholm you need to go to platform 1-2. Plattform 1-2 also traffic the city of Uppsala. The platform 1-2 is long and some parts of the train doesent stop at all parts of the plattform. In that case the text on the digital signs turns blue. Trains from southern parts of Stockholm arrives at these platforms on their way north.
Line 43 and 40 Kungsängen, Kallhäll, Bålsta and Jakobsberg
Line 43 uses platforms 1-2 and the signs show you exactly what platform a few minutes before arrival. Sometimes the line uses 43x as an extra train and sometimes the train skips a few stations to save time. It's always described on the digital signs if some stations are skipped.
